For homeowners with roof damage, there are at least two
sites that can be used to sign up for the FEMA sponsored
“blu roof” (their spelling) program. They will provide
and install the blue plastic tarps to prevent further
rain damage in homes at no cost to homeowners. The tarps
are good for about 30 days (although some Katrina “blu
roof” tarps are still in place.) Homeowners will have to
make their own arrangements for permanent repair, but
the temporary roofing will provide protection.
Homeowners can sign up at either the Corps of Engineers
in Webster, at a Nick Lampson-sponsored site near
Ellington Field on SH-3, or at a temporary “walk-up”
table just outside Lowes Home Center off I-45. The
Lampson site can also help people apply for other FEMA
sponsored programs.
For Bay Oaks homeowners, the Community Association is
arranging for assistance in hauling off tree debris.
Vegetation should be placed on the curb between the
sidewalk and the street. A loading crew will pick up the
limbs, etc., and haul them for recycling. Please DO NOT
put building materials or other household materials in
the tree debris. Leaves may be left unbagged; unbagged
leaves will be removed with the limbs, etc. If leaves
are bagged in Bay Oaks, a “second pass” of the
collection company will take them. Bagged leaves can not
be recycled due to the plastic.

BEWARE OF PARKING
ILLEGALLY!! The City of Houston has volunteers who
patrol the area who are giving out parking tickets to
people who are parked facing the wrong direction on the
street. They drive a red Ford Taurus with a small City
of Houston emblem on the driver's door. Make sure you
park facing the way you would drive on the street, and
NOT facing traffic!
